Role Definition

Join a small, high-impact finance team supporting accounting and tax activities for Caterpillar operations in Kazakhstan. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly close processes, and contributing to process improvements while partnering with internal stakeholders and external advisors. Working closely with the local accounting team and reporting to leadership in South Africa, you will help strengthen in-house financial capabilities and support future business growth across the region.

What You Will Do

• Maintain accurate financial records and accounting transactions in compliance with GAAP and organizational standards.

• Support monthly close activities, reconciliations, and reporting processes to ensure timely and accurate financial results.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including HR and external partners, to support day-to-day accounting operations.

• Assist with tax-related activities, including VAT and statutory accounting requirements within Kazakhstan.

• Create and maintain financial reports for internal and external use and analyze reporting discrepancies when identified.

• Drive process optimization initiatives and support the transition of selected accounting activities from external providers to in-house teams.

• Provide support across regional entities as needed, including financial statement reviews and special finance projects.

• Support receipt, capturing and filling of primary documents in accordance with local legislation and investigate ways to optimize this process.

Basic Requirements:

• At least 3-5 years of experience in an Accountant or similar accounting position.

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

• Formal accounting qualifications and strong understanding of core accounting principles.

• Experience supporting statutory accounting and tax-related activities, including VAT requirements in Kazakhstan.

• Working knowledge of SAP and experience using 1C accounting software.

• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• Experience progressing toward a finance team leadership or supervisory role.

• Broader exposure to regional accounting operations across multiple legal entities.

• Experience working with external audit or consulting firms.

• Knowledge of Russian financial statements and regional statutory reporting requirements.

• Track record of process improvement, automation, or finance transformation initiatives.

• Experience serving as a key backup for senior finance or tax professionals.

Financial Analysis: Working knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

Financial Reporting: Working knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
